Particularly notable for their exquisite, sensitive draughtsmanship and subtle handling of color, the paintings of Renate Thalhammer are beautifully executed manifestations of her inner emotional world. She explores her subject matter through representations of the female form, the outlines of their curves emerging from her canvases like fantastical specters. Perhaps owing to her ability to sculpt and to conceptualize in three dimensions, Thalhammer is able to capture a feeling of form and physicality with just a few simple lines. Although they are painted in acrylics, Thalhammer’s works give the impression of having been painted in oils, the delicate yet intensely colored layers of pigment retaining enormous depth and quality. Her palette of earth tones, ochres and reds with some warm blue thrown into the mix, makes her paintings glow with warmth and energy.
Renate Thalhammer grew up surrounded by her father’s sculptures in Wolfratshausen near Munich, where she still lives. She has exhibited widely and now works to inspire others through her own art therapy.
