Art We Crave: Cubism

Whether it’s a deconstruction of forms or a deliberate separation of hues, this technique never stops amusing its viewers. Take a glimpse into the world of cubism-inspired works on ARTmine.

cubism

Widely recognized as the very first abstract technique, Cubism was a truly revolutionary style of modern art developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. An attempt by artists to revitalize the tired traditions of Western art, this art form challenges conventional forms of representation such as perspective and anatomy representation.

Over the years, artists have repeatedly adopted the technique and subsequently developed their own unique version of it. Whether it is a deconstruction of forms or a deliberate separation of hues, the cubist technique never stops amusing its viewers.

Below is a small but diverse selection of selected cubism-inspired works by Agora Gallery artists. For more, please visit www.art-mine.com.

In Patricia Queiruga‘s paintings, the paint builds, drizzles, and drips into shape, almost as if mimicking the movements of sharp and flat notes in music. The artistic exploration of material and technique is clearly visible in her works. “I believe that experimentation is the key to being an artist,” she says.

Iva Milanova‘s portraits employ reductive, flattened imagery. The artist displays a sensitivity for color, having learned to weave, dye, and mix colors from her grandmother at a very early age. Though her figures are distinctly modern, the influence of religious iconography is immediately recognizable in her work. “I hope that my works will bring joy and happiness to the people who view my work,” she says.

With a background in architecture, Julio Lopez Vietri creates images that combine spontaneity with a highly developed eye for structure. “Balancing the esoteric with constructivism and surrealism while retaining the affinity of the line, my works of art respond in part to my vocational background as a professional architect and in part to my philosophical search,” he explains.

Orchestrating his colors to maximum effect, Michael Dolen creates a world that is precisely thought out, yet has the freedom and spontaneity of a dream. “When I am drawn to biomorphic shapes, I want them to seem compelling in themselves and also as dynamic elements in a design that is never entirely comfortable with its own devices,” he says about his work.

“I live because I want to paint. I paint because I want to live,” says Czech artist Wojciech Tut Chechliński. Building oil paintings from thickly laid paint and fragmented visions of the world, he manages to convey uninhibited emotion with his works.

The loud red and black paintings of Franck Sastre will quickly grab hold of the viewer’s attention with their sharp lines and bold color choices. “I like to express new sensations of color that can give emotion to a painting,” he says, and by adding bright yellows, greens, and blues into the mix, he brings each image to life with high-energy and curious spontaneity.
