For many years my arts practice has focused on examining the notion of the ‘sublime’ as it relates to my experiences of the landscapes of regional Australia. I paint in a realistic style and intend to capture the intense color and light of these ‘sublime’ moments, expressed in big, sweeping, dramatic skies. I utilize the motif of ‘two-thirds sky’ to represent the natural environment, which is sometimes uncomfortably married with a rural and/or suburban environment. I aim to paint ‘timeless’ landscapes that create a sense of intrigue, drama and an opening for a narrative to be created.
