Painting has been my first confidante, my first therapist, my first deep belief in life.
It lent me eyes to see the world.
Working primarily in oil paint, I am an artist who paints to satisfy a need for play, self-expression, and solace. Most of my work is produced through a primitively driven search for the visually valuable. What I create is intended to be beautiful. Exclude what is not necessary and beauty shows.
Particularly in expressions of the horse, I find this to be a poignant meter. This animal is a near universal coin for not only beauty, but also strength and intuition. Whether it is abstract expositions on the equine form, the human figure, or the totally abstract, beauty is the main driver. I shamelessly admit that there is often no other purpose behind it.
Beauty encompasses a great deal of our natural world and its workings. The natural world is a powerful charge for me. The connection between science and art often comes to mind for me as where there is great beauty there are also systems often too complex for the naked eye.
