I am interested in exploring how our natural environment affects us. When we walk through the woods, feeling the earth beneath us, peace and stillness may arise. At the same time, the darkness of the forest and the tall trees hovering upon us, may instill a sense of threat, making us feel small and insignificant. You won’t find any human figures in my paintings, as I want people to step into my work and imagine that they are there. Amongst the wilderness, I always offer a lifeline to the viewer in the form of a small geometric construction, which provides shelter from the unpredictable natural elements.
My work rests on contrasts: the interplay between light and darkness, shap man-made forms and whimsical natural environments, straight angular lines and a picturesque, spherical world. These opposites represent different sides of my personality. On the one hand I wish to jump into the world, enjoy myself, and feel free. On the other hand, I feel a need to protect myself against my surroundings and retreat to a safe place.
