Almost daily, I paint and draw, using a variety of mediums and supports. I start my work with a sketch or idea, and am inspired by current events that may have caught my attention or overwhelmed me in some way. For example, I was shocked by the 2017 “Irma” hurricane and the damage it brought; I produced art directly from this experience.
Being from a Caribbean island, and living close the sea, I find inspiration in the richness and intensity of the colors around me - fire, the sea, sunsets and sunrises - and I utilize this warmth in my work.
I make references to Havana, where I live, aiming to reflect on all aspects, from social to cultural and religious traditions. I like to represent the events that take place around me, and often allude to the social and political climate of the country.
