There is a vibrant passion and sensuality present in Vito Aroma’s vivid explosions of pigment and form, a kind of spiritual awakening in paint. One can feel the coarse roughness of coral, the sharp spines of sea anemone, and the lush juices of an armed cactus in Aroma’s richly textured works as he paints the animated song of sun and sea. With a palpable sense of immediacy the artist applies oil paints to canvas and wood freely, finding communion with his spirit through color. “The deep sense of my art is to reveal its existence in a language that expresses the movement of the human soul, its sacred language and its power to be the Logos through color as an expression of the human journey spread across Existence,” Aroma writes.
Born in Marina di Catanzaro, Calabria, Vito Aroma now lives in Mantua, Italy. The influences of ancient Greek seafaring culture and mythology and of the Italian Renaissance permeate his art with a Mediterranean warmth and timelessness.
