Rendered in oil, acrylic and charcoal on canvas or board, Tatiana Davidov Romo’s mixed media fusions straddle the boundaries of the real, the imaginary and the sculptural. Richly textured and verging on three dimensionality, some of Romo’s color saturated terrains possess the likeness of indigenous rubbings or markings. Equally influenced by her Eastern European and Russian artist predecessors as by the uniquely beautiful geography of the Canadian countryside of her current locale, the works reflect and are enriched by an extra-linguistic physical and cultural nomadism. Occasionally, symbols of spiritual and metaphysical philosophies, including Buddhism, converge, adding an ethereal note to a piece. The repetitive motifs of the artist’s diverse work are raised textures and her constant turn to the shores of the subconscious and the wisdom of dream life.
Tatiana Davidov Romo was born in Chishinau, Republic of Moldova, where she obtained a degree in Fine Arts from the Republican College of Fine Arts Al. Plamadyala. She currently lives and works in Calgary, Canada.
