Suzanne (SÜ) Fortin

Suzanne (SÜ) Fortin’s mixed media dimensional works are mounted on materials including paper, canvas, glass, and wood. Discarded items found in nature, hospitals, abandoned buildings and along the roadside often become the focal point or may embellish some of her collages. SÜ’s organic compositions, often measuring up to 36” x 40” x 8” in size, invoke associations with the elements of the earth and the human form. Swirling tendrils of gold, craggy paper parchments and anthropomorphized articles create a dynamic sculptural relief or ‘topography’ against the artist’s characteristically gold, yellow, copper and reddish brown background. Fascinated with Africa and its contemporary diaspora culture, SÜ’s compositions often carry visual and sometimes textual references to the continent’s global socio-political position and the vibrant traditions of its diverse peoples.

Born in Canada, Suzanne (SÜ) Fortin received her Masters in Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec where she currently lives and works on her art.
