With nods to fashion photography and art history, the sophisticated digital artwork of Canadian-born artist Stephanie Mackenzie is a force to behold. Her work confronts us with brash colors and multilayered configurations featuring men and women, designs, textures, architecture and much more. We find subtle references to Pop Art and Surrealism, but Mackenzie is speaking through a voice all her own. “The style of my pieces is photography twisted with my imagination into a Digital Art form,” she explains. “My goal is to make them look as if they are coming to life in different dimensions.” There is an intricate process that goes into creating each piece. Models, costumes, set design and lighting are crucial in the initial phases. Mackenzie then uses Adobe Photoshop to create a potent sense of dimensionality and luminous contrast, and later prints the images on canvas. Her art has been exhibited in New York, Paris and Toronto. She lives in Paris.
