Stephanie Elyse Patent creates intricately detailed abstract work with ink on paper, evoking a sense of introspective intimacy. Her background in theater and dance has deeply influenced her style; she focuses on movement, color, and form, creating art that weaves a graceful path across the page and into the viewer’s mind. Patent is swept up in the process of creation, yet for her that process is gradual and painstaking, based on integrity and frankness. She writes, "What is most beautiful is the real and raw" – and she slowly strips away the white space with line after line of ink to reveal throbbing, undulating ripples of emotion. Her art is unfettered by rigid plans; she approaches each blank page with a fresh eye, and her pieces reveal themselves to her as she works on them.
Stephanie Elyse Patent was born and raised in New Hope, Pennsylvania. She studied art and theater at Drew University, and currently lives in New York.
