Seán Conlon’s appealing landscape portraits feature bucolic Irish countryside, including old castles, ruins and buildings beside animal, plant and human life. Lush emerald plumage, golden brush and rosy blossoms rush to the fore, tempered by atmospheric clouds and the faint glimmer of sunlight on still water. A softly rendered, sweetly romantic ode to the modest tranquility of country living and the majestic pastoral, Conlon’s paintings in oil and occasionally watercolor are nostalgic with a transcendentalist leaning. The artist prefers to work with wet on wet, achieving a gentle softness with the pigment which he manipulates skillfully with a brush and palette knife. His attention to detail and expert adoption of classical painting styles combine to produce pleasing compositions that are both tender and familiar.
Seán Conlon was born in 1962 and raised in County Kildare, Ireland. A self-taught artist, he has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe and abroad.
