Rumen Nistorov

Bulgarian artist Rumen Nistorov has created a stunning body of work that displays an uncanny ability for setting up theatrical and mysterious situations. In a painterly style that remains bold yet sensitive, Nistorov presents us with a particular moment in time featuring a solo protagonist or group of figures. There is a sense of suspended animation, as if we have stumbled into a room where dramatic events are unfolding. His characteristic female figures are lithe and sensual yet at the same time speak of innocence. The stage is set with rooms that are simultaneously familiar and surreal, with sweeping areas of vibrant color. His attention to detail is superb; glass, fabric, and flesh all receive the utmost attention to realism. Through his painting Nistorov does not portray a “definite theme” but merely a “suggestion to leave the possibility for spectators to develop further in their thoughts.” He proves that we are limited only by the borders of our imagination.

Rumen Nistorov has exhibited internationally for twenty years, in locations including Paris, Tokyo and New York.
