Rosa Olivo defines herself as an ‘Essentialist Artist,’ and this is something that has a significant impact on her work. Essentialism is a proto-philosophical line of thinking in which the artist conceives of the artistic process as a flowing and dynamic production fluctuating between the twin poles of intuition and knowledge. The result is a vibrant richness of expression which seems to reflect the core of who we are and what we know of the world. Olivo relies on color as a testimony to feeling, allowing her to develop and create images of spiritual revelation. Burning flames of vermillion, indigo, brown, teal and gold interlock on canvas with dynamic shards of interior space and glowing geometric abstraction. Illusive and mildly disorienting, these massive acrylic and oil paintings offer post-apocalyptic dreamscapes influenced by imagination, geomorphic eruption and urban decay.
Born in 1950 in Adrogue, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rosa Olivo currently lives and works in the Federal District of the city of Buenos Aires.
