American artist Roberta Dixon creates abstract paintings that are bold, bright, dramatic and highly expressionistic. A unique interplay of color, movement and texture defines each of her canvases as she pursues highly personal visions of release, translating internal emotive landscapes into compelling visual experiences. Dixon says the works “expose my past, enable reconciliation with the present, and define my future.” When approaching a canvas, the artist fully embraces the chaos within yet simultaneously injects elements of balance and control. She typically begins with a seed of an idea — an obscure image or phrase, or fleeting memory — and then translates what she feels in the moment into vivid hues, intriguing textures and intricate detail. Broad brushstrokes and thick textures are juxtaposed alongside finely crafted lines, all connected by vibrant swaths of color. Her spontaneous approach yields visions of innocence, sparkling with visual intensity and emotional life. As Dixon explains, “With each painting comes a new beginning, infused with possibility.”
Roberta Dixon currently lives and works in the Finger Lakes region of New York State.
