Rachel Hamburger’s realistic oil and charcoal on canvas paintings are imbued with an energy at once somber and jocund. Hamburger renders landscapes, both urban and natural, with a charming attention to detail and tranquil application of paint to canvas. Laundry, especially the clothesline, emerges as a reoccurring motif in her work and a remarkable subject for the artist’s impression of the subtle play of light and shadow within a given milieu. Offering semblances of the inner peace obtained by one who is open to the gifts of the present, Hamburger remarks that her creative process is her ‘sacred place of calm and serenity.’ Her orchestral compositions capture the subtle beauty of daily life with truly inspiring relish and old world flair.
Born in Tel-Aviv, Israel, Rachel Hamburger received her BA in Criminology in 1979 and has completed post-graduate courses in Photography and Interior Design at home and abroad. She currently lives and works in Pardessiya, Israel.
