Pascal Bejeannin

Inspired by his own colorblindness and a lifetime spent looking beyond limits, French artist Pascal Bejeannin uses primarily black and other monochrome colors to explore the emotional and energetic realms so often overlooked. In his abstract acrylic paintings, he searches for beauty within the “sober” and “almost nothing” that nonetheless hints at energy heretofore unknown. “Black fascinates me, its power and its movement allows anything that surrounds it to exist.” Indeed, his paintings are energetic and dynamic, rich in texture and highlighted by splashes of carefully placed color — adhering to his conception of art that is based on Hans Hartung’s declaration that “no form can arise without movement.”

Bejeannin’s fascination with limits extends not only to his artistic endeavors but also to his humanitarian work, traveling around the world working with Doctors without Borders, in Africa, and even in war-torn Lebanon. His art reflects these experiences as he pushes deeper and deeper into seemingly hostile territories to explore what lies beyond the truths we know. When not traveling, Pascal Bejeannin lives and works in Jura, France.
