Marzena Oberc-Habzda’s meticulously detailed paintings of flowers, animals and landscapes reflect her strong belief in the inherent artistry of nature itself. “I am fascinated with the perfect unity, relationship of shapes and harmony of color that nature delivers with such ease and perfection,” she says. In her images, those colors and forms are captured with near-photographic intensity. Painting in acrylics on canvas, Oberc-Habzda infuses her colors with a strong sense of light and saturation. Even when she is depicting an underwater scene, sunlight seems to infuse her paintings, creating a glow that surrounds her subjects and heightens their physicality. Yet light and color are just one part of what makes the artist’s work so appealing. She also has a fine sense of composition, which results in images that are balanced and unified, but never static. In addition, she has a very sharp eye for rendering her subjects, capturing them down the smallest detail, while preserving a sense of freedom that lets the images breathe.
Born in Poland, Marzena Oberc-Habzda now lives and works in Marion, Connecticut.
