Katherine DuTremble

Katherine DuTremble's oil paintings and monotypes are awash in light. The transient nature of light is reflected in the process of monotyping, and her art, which is strongly influenced by the Impressionists, has the fresh, spontaneous quality of watercolors as well as the rich depth of hue afforded by oils. "The color of the light is one of the most important aspects of any piece of art," she writes, and all of her art reveals and explores this philosophy. As a result, her paintings and prints are deeply evocative, with a strong sense of place and mood. DuTremble's work has a strong emphasis on vertical movement; it soars upward, reaching for the sublime. Her sweeping brushstrokes underscore that uplifting quality, and her paintings capture moments of quivering beauty.

DuTremble worked for her BFA at Miami University in Ohio, and studied under the late well-known painting instructor Martin Ahrens, her good friend and mentor. Katherine DuTremble's work can be found in many corporate and private collections in Canada, Europe and across the U.S. Currently residing in Charleston, South Carolina, she has received numerous awards in local and national art shows.
