June McCotter is a well-established Australian artist who paints luminous abstract landscapes with mixed media on canvas. McCotter captures the fleeting, ethereal essence of her subjects, exploring the colors and moods of nature in her homeland. Whether she depicts a drought in the Australian outback or heavy rains, her work possesses an exquisite elegance and brevity that beautifully conveys emotion. "Painting is my only way of communicating intimate reactions to nature, life and the world around me," she explains. The moods in McCotter's work are primarily created through her use of color. She works mainly with the warm colors that are prevalent in her region, subduing or intensifying them for dramatic effect. Individual paintings keep to a limited palette in order to strengthen the emotional message, and the overall effect is lucid and moving.
June McCotter grew up on a cattle station in Australia, and her experiences there have inspired much of the creative energy that forms her art. Currently living and working in the Sunshine Coast, her work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions.
