Influenced by the colors, culture and art of the native peoples of South America, Jimena Vilchez’s playfully vivid works pulse with a global beat. After years spent experimenting within the realms of conceptual art and traditional female nudes in mixed media and collage on canvas, Vilchez discovered a personal artistic strength and voice in the visual language of her homeland. Incorporating textural elements of fabric, wool, and synthetic leather into her works in mixed media and collage on canvas, the artist creates linear fields of geometric patterning. “I think my work has a good future in the world of art because I'm constantly looking for new techniques, tools and topics to make my work as an artist constantly renewed,” she writes.
Born and living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jimena Vilchez initially began her career as a self-taught artist, later continuing to expand her skills and knowledge in Art History at the University of Buenos Aires and in Fine Arts through the IUNA National Institute of Arts.
