Jean Marc La-Roque

The photographs of Jean Marc La-Roque have an ethereal quality, reaching out to a lost world of open landscapes and the now precarious human connection to the natural world. Using compositions that focus on the human imprint on primal nature via industrial structures, he elevates those seemingly unbecoming objects to a higher aesthetic level, by focusing on the graphic, abstract quality of the scenes he photographs. Benefitting by the artist’s eye for harmony, the viewer can see the beauty in the gestalt.
 
Laroque's oeuvre provides a sense of peace and awe simultaneously. He attributes his success to the contemplative observation he makes of his surroundings, along with the skilled organization and perseverance that comes from working as a professional photographer for over thirty years. An award-winning photographer, Laroque has worked extensively in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Having resided in Australia since the 1970's, his works reflect the expanse of scenery so inherent to that region, and the play of light and shapes experienced there allows him to explore man's presence in the natural world.
