Fumitoshi Kamura transforms graphic design into a spiritual art through awe-inspiring digital prints. Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Kamura creates enticingly beautiful images of mythical characters and fantastic realms. Temples reach towards the heavens, while a cool mist creeps towards faraway mountains. This is an extraordinary world populated by welcoming angelic figures draped in beautiful garments. Symmetry plays an important part in each composition. Each plant, article of clothing, and building is crafted with distinct ornamentalism. The lines are hard-edged and fastidious while the palette favors pastels, violet, and jade. Kamura’s appreciation for the intricate craftsmanship of European cathedrals is combined with a familiarity with Eastern culture, religion, and architecture. “I like angels, fairies, God, Buddha, and flowers,” he explains. “I want to express them with holiness, stillness, and delicacy.”
With a mother who worked in kimono dressmaking and a father who was employed in drafting, it is easy to see early childhood influence in the serene beauty and exactitude of Fumitoshi Kamura’s contemporary art. He lives in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
