Elvira Valenzuela shapes steel into graceful, austere sculptures that resonate with their own simplicity. Each piece portrays a concept in an abstract way, persuading viewers to reflect on the interaction between the art, its environment, and the idea that molded the work. Valenzuela's craftsmanship is superb. She creates smooth, sinuous shapes that are both stark and inviting, a quiet call to introspection. "Stainless steel is a medium that I believe reflects my own character," Valenzuela explains. "At first glance it is cold and sharp, but once you begin to work with it... you realize how truly malleable it is." She emphasizes the relationship between empty form and space, balance and imbalance, seeking to create an object, atmosphere and scene that are both intriguing and thought-provoking through her art and the reactions it elicits.
Elvira Valenzuela was born and educated in Chile. She is a committed young artist who is already making a name for herself, and she has been featured in many juried exhibitions.
