Using acrylics on linen and canvas, Doussineau Claude masterfully portrays the rich, vibrant colors of La Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean. "Painting is for me an attempt to create poetry by playing with colors," he explains. In particular, Claude uses complementary colors to great poetic effect: the collision and the subsequent interaction between the chosen hues pulls viewers into his landscapes and holds them there, entranced. Abstraction lends Claude's work a sense of ethereal mystery. Organic, languid forms drape effortlessly across the canvas, evoking a sense of serenity, beauty, and relaxation. Peaceful, harmonious colors form a gentle backdrop for the tension and drama of the interaction between complements, and throughout his work there pulses a certain luminous quality that inspires a sense of tranquility and awe.
Doussineau Claude, a native of France, is a member and former president of the Union of the Artists of La Réunion. His affinity for color was recognized at a young age.
