Richly varied in her thematic choices, mixed media artist Deborah Jean Burdin seeks to give a visual voice to the vast scope of human emotion and experience. Carefully placed artifacts of everyday life harmoniously mitigate soulful, lush painting textures. Thus, Burdin speaks to the poetic balance of opposites inherent in human psyches and behaviors. “My aim is to reflect life experience and give life to inner thoughts and emotions that many other people can relate to, while evoking an emotional response or pondering of circumstance while viewing the art,” she explains. Through these sparkling works, viewers find comforting connections with the often chaotic emotional world around and in them. Washes of vibrant primary color clash with poles of black and white as Burdin unleashes her imaginative, inspired self onto her canvases, and celestial orbs of soft shapes evoke a strong sense of the playful, yet earnest, moments in life.
A largely self-taught artist, Deborah Jean Burdin learned textiles as a child. She lives and works in Surprise, Arizona.
