Through thickly nuanced textures and rich, painterly brushwork, Danielle Scheffer seeks to unearth the mysteries inherent in life. Primarily a figurative painter, her works are characterized by a unique ability to deftly conjure ghost-like apparitions that encapsulate the essence of her subjects. Figures whisper through her canvases, creating a sense of intrigue and fantasy that mimics the exhilaration of passion. A pensive, muted palette is electrifyingly tranquil, allowing the viewer to transcend the distractions of everyday life, urging us to discover what is truly beautiful in our lives. “What inspires me and seduces me in the body is the line which gives me the story, the ambiance, the lost and found,” says Scheffer. “In my painting I want to recognize the essential, the essence.”
Danielle Scheffer used a variety of media and techniques before realizing her artistic voice was best expressed through acrylics, which allow her to apply paint quickly in large-scale washes which articulate the transience of essence and emotion. She was born in Montreal, Quebec.
