Cary Griffiths

Cary Griffiths’ abstract work is a dialogue between the psychological state of the artist and that of the viewer. By focusing on the internal structures of his own thoughts and feelings, Cary accesses universal forms through which to give shape to his experiences. He also paints with stunning colors, and at times dark backgrounds, which create moods varying from tranquil to startling. Like abstract art at its best, Cary’s work first affects you in an instant, after which you step back to contemplate and examine the painting, as well as your own responses to it.

Cary says that his art comes not from his critical thoughts, but rather from an internal rhythm of instinctual feelings. He views his work process as a performance reflecting this rhythm, and the results as a piece of music. Perhaps this is why these abstracts touch us on so many levels; the visual music of Cary’s work resonates, and we are richer for it.
