Like a contemporary Impressionist, painter Carlos Sucre portrays the ephemeral, spiritual essence concealed within his subjects. Through vivacious, vivid color and luxurious, light-filled atmospheric effects, Sucre makes landscapes and still life paintings come alive with an unrivaled potency. His essential objective is to make something beautiful, and he achieves this feat through sinuous soft brushwork and an intricately delicate attention to color. Radiant in his use of light, the artist’s faith in beauty guides him in approaching the canvas with a purity of spirit. “I have a particular attraction for the effect or impression that colors and light have on my senses,” says Sucre. “The infinite combination of colors, light and forms gives to the artist a great field of action.” Painting is to him a dramatically intense act, and his refined sense of shape and texture reveal this sensitivity.
Carlos Sucre was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, where he lives and works today.
