With a playful spirit and a narrative quality, Southwestern artist Bill Watson creates a body of work that expresses both his cultural roots and international travels. Borrowing from the visual lexicon of the Native peoples of the Southwest and South America, Bill Watson’s inventive and sometimes humorous paintings reflect the unique spirit of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Like Santa Fe, which is known for its mystical spirituality, Watson’s paintings have an enigmatic quality that draws the viewer in with bold colors, swirling lines, reverberating rhythms and animal subjects. The combination of these elements allows the paintings to come alive with the uncanny energy that encompasses Santa Fe culture.
The multi-talented Bill Watson attained a PhD in Chemistry from Rice University before pursuing his art career full time. In addition to being a well respected painter, Watson is an award winning playwright, who was also recently published in NY Arts magazine.
