Thick yet delicate and nuanced washes of texture flow throughout Armande Lebeau’s enthralling creations. Though rooted in the techniques and tenants of watercolor painting, Lebeau works mainly in acrylic in transparency, a method that gives her art a romantic, melodic sense of space and time. Her primary motif is nature, with emphatic attention to trees, and she achieves her captivating effects with energetically colored and cleverly surfaced brushwork. Lebeau’s deft use of transparency allows her to explore the unadulterated tones and physiognomies in an expressively gentle fashion, poignantly portraying the wonders of the natural world. “I apply many layers of wash; that is how I build my painting from the inside out, as if I were making a tree, layer by layer, starting with the core of the bark,” she explains. The process takes meticulous care and attention to detail, which is stunningly evident in her illuminated, richly constructed paintings.
A Quebec native, Armande Lebeau is an award-winning artist who has exhibited her work in Quebec and France.
