Anton Antonov’s depiction of people and nature calls to mind works by Picasso and Chagall:  graceful, swirling figures seemingly detached from the physical world, while remaining full of real-world emotional resonance.  Antonov’s compositional technique sets him apart as often his application of paint to surface seems thicker and more ornate than anything done by those two great masters and his colorings are completely his own.  “The major means of expression for me is the color,” he says.  Soft-glowing blue against the palest beige, accents of purple and green intermingling with the deepest russet . . . Truly, the complex spectrum of hues found on every Antonov  canvas brings something intangible to each viewing experience.
 
Antonov’s work has been featured in shows ranging from Germany and Austria to Poland, Italy, and the U.S.  During a 1994 exhibition in Lisbon, pro soccer star and fellow Bulgarian Krasimir Balukov bought 40 of Antonov’s paintings.
