Press Release

Melissa G. Watt creates exciting, abstract paintings in enamel and mixed media on paper or canvas. Her works vibrate with motion and powerful colors, as vivid lines of varying width loop and swirl around the picture plane. Dense layering allows the audience to visualize Watt’s movements and thoughts during the process of creation. Other works show an artist occupied by the effects of texture and the shadows fashioned by an impasto surface. Watt navigates easily to create a gauzy appearance of light, shimmering before our very eyes.

Her approach to painting is undoubtedly influenced by a positive worldview and the will to capture a mental state of joy and exaltation, further enhanced by her playful experimentation with media. "My work comes from a personal place where I can turn and release my feelings and my inspirations into visuals," she explains, "I use my paintings as a vehicle to show my state of happiness." Watt is very active in the arts community and continues to exhibit her works across the United States.
