MG deButts’ work vibrantly captures the simplicity and innocence of youth. The artist lures the eye with an intense color palette with which she creates multiple planes and dimensions. And similar to many childhood experiences, deButts work leaves a strong, lasting impression. In her work the artist illustrates what it would be like to view the physical world for the first time with a fully developed conscious. She outlines her subjects in bold yellow, brown, red and white indicative both of how strong of an impression first experiences can have and reminiscent of the impact of the developmental years. Although many of the focal points of her paintings draw upon the familiar, there’s still an element of fantasy.
MG deButts studied art and philosophy at Duke University, followed by two years at Pratt Institute’s Fine Art Graduate painting program. Her collection predominantly includes oil on canvas and watercolors; however she also experiments with Plexiglas. The artist currently splits her time between Connecticut and California.
